Top 13 Best Texas Resort Pools
1. Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa – Bastrop, Texas (Austin Area)
“Crooked River” Waterpark at Hyatt Lost Pines Resort is sure to provide hours of fun for water lovers with several pools, a lazy river, slides, and a sandy beach area. All pools connect directly to the lazy river so you hardly ever have to get out of the water! Pools are open 8 am – 10 pm. The adult and kids areas are heated when outside temps are between 55-75, leaving the main activity pool and lazy river chilly.
Pools
- Main Activity Pool – This family-friendly activity pool has a graded entry with a sandy beach as well as pool basketball and volleyball. It also connects directly to the lazy river. There is a family-friendly hot tub in this area as well.
- Kids Splash Pad – Completely separate from any pools so it’s perfect for tots that may not even be walking yet. It has fountains that splash water at random intervals that are sure to delight. Loungers surround the splash pad area to give Mom and Dad a little break as well.
- Adult Pool and Hot Tub – The adult pool is accessible by the lazy river but is far enough from the main current that there are no stray inner tubes floating into the adults-only area. There is also a large waterfall at the entrance to the pool that helps dim the squeals and splashes from the lazy river to maintain the adult atmosphere.
Lazy River
The 1,000-foot lazy river at the Hyatt Lost Pines is long and connects all the pools and even the slides together. It also has a poolside bar, which really sets it apart from the other resorts. There are large, beautiful trees that provide natural shade and a very relaxed atmosphere for your trip around the river. There are some sprinklers but always an option to avoid them if that’s not your thing. Single, double, and kids tubes are available. It is not heated so it can be quite chilly in the cooler months, whatever those are in central Texas!
Beach Area
The beach area is directly accessible from the main activity pool. Bring your beach toys or purchase some at the resort. Loungers with umbrellas are available. From the beach area you enter the main activity pool that then connects to the lazy river on the other side. The direct access does cause sand in the pool and lazy river… but I guess as parents we’re used to sand popping up in places it shouldn’t be!
Slides
The slides dump you out into a little cove area that attaches directly to the lazy river. They are open 10am – 6pm daily.
Lounge Area
The lounge areas at the Lost Pines Hyatt are our favorite of the Texas family resorts. There are large pecan trees that rustle in the wind and provide a cool spot with natural shade and a relaxing vibe to really feel like you’re on vacation. There are lounge areas around each of the pools, the beach, and right up along the banks of the lazy river.
The ground is also made of different materials – wood, aggregate concrete, or grass so if you forget your water shoes you can hop from one surface to the next to avoid burning your feet #Texasproblems. If you’d prefer to have a premiere lounging location, private cabanas, and loungers are available to rent.
Food/Drink
Keep your whistles wet and tummies full with the swim-up bar and poolside waiters serving food from Old Buck’s Place.
2. JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa – San Antonio, Texas
“River Bluff Water Experience” is the resident water park at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa. It offers multiple pools, a lazy river, 4 slides, and a sandy beach area. The pools are open from 8 am-10 pm. They are heated to the high 70s/low 80s but the lazy river and slides are closed if the outside temp drops below 55 degrees. Each room includes 4 wristbands to the waterpark.
Pools
- Main Activity Pool – This is a family-friendly pool that is centrally located and surrounded by lounge chairs and cabanas. It is not connected to the lazy river directly.
- Sandy Beach Pool – This family-friendly pool has a sandy beach-graded entrance. Bring your own beach toys or purchase some in the pool area of the resort. This pool does not connect directly to the lazy river, which helps keep the other pool areas less sandy. There are lounge chairs and cabanas available around the pool to optimize your beach pool experience. There is also a family-friendly hot tub in this area.
- Kids Pool – A small pool with a graded entrance. There are sprinkler/spray activities and a small toddler slide in the pool that’s just a couple of feet high. There are also 2 kids slides, one 3 feet and one 6 feet long, so your littlest ones don’t feel left out when older siblings enjoy the big slides. There are some loungers around the pool with small umbrellas for shade but there is a lot of direct sun so be sure to pack sunglasses, and hats, and remember to apply… and reapply sunscreen as needed!
- Adult Pool and Hot Tub – The adult pool and hot tub have an infinity edge overlooking a picturesque hill country setting. It is separate but close to the kids pool. The infinity edge provides a waterfall sound so you’re not just hearing kids at play. This pool does not connect directly to the lazy river.
- Lantana Spa Pool – Not part of the River Bluff Water Experience but is worth mentioning with the other pools. The spa offers a private “lagoon-like” pool on the opposite side of the resort from the water park.
Lazy River
The 1,100-foot lazy river at the JW San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa is the longest of our featured resorts. It is heated to a temperature of 75-85 degrees (yay!) but closed if the outside temp dips below 55 (boo!). There is not a lot of natural shade on the river but it is lined with beautiful regional flora to give it a relaxing hill country vibe. Single and double tubes are available but there are no kid tubes.
*Pro Tip – bring your own kids tube/float from home!
Beach Area
The sandy beach area is connected to a separate pool that is family-friendly with a graded entry and a little more secluded than the main activity pool. Beach toys are available for purchase at the resort or you can bring your own from home.
Slides
This resort wins the award for best water slides! There are 2 inner tube slides, 2 body slides, and a tube water slide that connects to the lazy river with beautiful hill country views from the top of all of them!
Lounge Areas
The lounge areas are gathered around each of the pools and along the lazy river. There are more sunny areas than shady ones and the ground can get hot! Spots around the kids pool and in the shade go fast so you’ll want to grab these early if that’s what you’re going for.
There are private cabanas available for rent around the main activity and sandy beach pools. Cabanas include a shaded area with sectional sofa and chaise lounge chairs, a refrigerator, a safe for valuables, flat screen TV, and towel service. Cabanas around the main activity pool also includes in-pool lounge chairs, which can be seen in the main activity pool picture above.
Food/Drink
Poolside waiters provide service to Rivertop Poolside Grill from the comfort of your lounger. Water stations can be found scattered around the pool decks.
3. Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa – San Antonio, Texas
“Edge Falls” is the water park and pool area of the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort. It offers a lot of fun things to keep everyone entertained all day with multiple pools along with a lazy river, sandy beach area, one slide, and a simulated surfing experience. The pools are open 8 am – 10 pm daily. The pools and lazy river are heated but the adult and kids pools are the only ones that feel that way on a particularly cool day.
Pools
- Main Activity Pool – A family-friendly large pool surrounded by beautiful trees that provide areas of natural shade perfectly balanced with sunny areas of the pool as well. Water volleyball and basketball are available and this pool connects directly to the lazy river so it makes a good “home base” for your pool activities.
- Kids Pool – A small pool with a graded entrance so your little ones can go at their own (or your) comfort level. This pool is not connected to the lazy river. It does have some lounge chairs around it but not much shade.
- Adult pool – A secluded pool in the shape of Texas. It is not connected to the lazy river.
- Hot Tub – A jacuzzi with a waterfall makes for a cave-like experience that is as picturesque as it is relaxing.
Lazy River
The “Ramblin’ River” lazy river at the Hill Country Hyatt is 950 feet of relaxation. It is technically considered “heated” but due to its size can still feel cool on a brisk day. It has a lot of shade trees and natural vegetation that gives it a very lush, relaxing feel right in the middle of the resort. There are cascading waterfalls that you can go under or you can admire them from the other side of the river without a splash. As previously mentioned, the lazy river does connect to the main activity pool but does not connect directly to the adult or kids pools, which is probably for the best!
There are single, double, and kids tubes available. There is a sandy beach area along the lazy river pool as well. My one complaint about this lazy river is that it gets very shallow as it passes the beach area. You will have to walk past the beach area with your inner tube in about knee-high water if you’re not riding on top of your tube. Aside from that, it’s a pretty ideal lazy river experience!
Beach Area
What is it about a sandy beach that just spells V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N? Kids and parents alike enjoy building sand castles while watching tubes pass by on the lazy river. There are loungers in this area if you want to pretend you’re at the beach all day. Bring your beach toys from home or some are available for purchase at the resort.
Slides
The one slide available for guests is an easygoing 22-foot water slide that is fun without being scary. It does not empty into a pool/lazy river. We’ve honestly never ridden it so I can’t offer any personal insight but the squeals of excitement and smiles of guests coming off the slide do make it sound enticing!
Surfing Experience
The FlowRider surf area is a unique feature of the Hill Country Hyatt that sets it apart from the other Texas family resorts. It is a wave simulator that you can ride either kneeling or standing on a board or board-less. It is described on the Hyatt website as “a combination of wakeboarding, boogie boarding, snowboarding and surfing” which I think pretty much sums it up perfectly! It is not included in the resort fee and costs about $25 for 2 hours, however, the entertainment provided watching it is free ?.
Lounge Areas
The lounge areas around Edge Falls are really nice. I like that they are spread out all along the lazy river, the several pools, and the beach area so it is not just a sea of chairs grouped together. Whatever you are looking for in a lounge area – sun, shade, bar proximity, tranquility – you can find an area perfect for you.
Lounge chairs are first come, first serve but cabanas can be reserved ahead of time to guarantee a prime lounging location. Cabanas are available from 8am-8pm starting at $200. Cabana rentals include 2 shaded loungers, a table with an umbrella with seating for 4, a flat-screen TV, a refrigerator, a safe for valuables, a ceiling fan, and an electric outlet.
Food/Drink
Refreshing drinks and food can be ordered from poolside waiters serving food from Papa Ed’s Poolside Grill or Vince’s Watering Hole Poolside Bar and Grill.
4. The Woodlands Resort – The Woodlands, Texas (Houston Area)
“Forest Oasis” Water Park at The Woodlands Resort with a 1,005 foot lazy river is one of our favorite Houston-area travel destinations. It provides a great place to stay cool and have fun after a day on the tennis courts with 2 pools, 3 whirlpools, slides, and a lazy river. It is open 9 am-10 pm daily but the slides close at 6 and the lazy river closes at dusk. Entry is only available to overnight hotel guests with a wristband, max of 4 per room.
Pools
- Main Recreation Pool – This family-friendly activity pool has a central 30 foot tower with a “racing slide” and waterfalls. There is also underwater music and a mural to explore.
- Relaxation Pool – This pool is lagoon-style and unofficially the adult pool. It is heated in cooler months.
- Kids Pool – “Puffy’s Sprayground” offers a zero-grade entry pool with fountains and waterspouts sure to keep the squeals coming. Keep an eye out for “Puffy”, the pinecone resort mascot.
Lazy River
The lazy river is an impressive 1,005 feet long. It is not heated and is separate from the other pools.
Beach Area
There is no sandy beach area at this resort.
Slides
The slides at The Woodlands Resort are super fun! There’s even a set of racer slides you can challenge your kids (or your spouse) to see who can splash into the recreation pool fastest! They are open from 9 am-6 pm daily.
Lounge Area
Standard hotel poolside loungers around the pools and lazy river. There are some in pool loungers available as well to help you beat the heat while catching some rays! There are 4 cabanas available for rent that provide you with shade with seating for up to 6.
Food/Drink
Cool Water Cafe offers a selection of lunch/dinner items to enjoy poolside and an extensive drink menu – both adult and kid-friendly that put a Shirley Temple to shame. Get the chicken fingers – trust us!

Food/Drink
Guests at the adult pool enjoy upscale poolside services from Topaz (think: steamed edamame, lobster grilled cheese, seared ahi salad) while guests at the resort or kid’s pool enjoy poolside services from Vista Grille (think: chicken strips, quesadilla, turkey club wrap). One feels fancy but the other one has Dippin’ Dots.
6. Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center – Grapevine, Texas (Dallas Fort Worth Area)
“Paradise Springs Aquatic Park” is located about a half-mile from the Gaylord Texan Resort and contains both the water park and lazy river. It is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekends. The park is open Mon-Thurs 10am – 7pm, Fri-Sat 9am – 8pm, and Sun 9am – 7pm. The water is not heated and the park is closed if the temperature outside is <65 degrees.
Pools
- Main Activity Pool – A large pool with a LOT to do. There are 2 horseshoe-shaped hot pools that connect directly with the main pool. They do not get as hot as a hot tub but are a nice place to sit and watch all the activity going on elsewhere in the pool. There are a couple zip lines that you can ride then drop into the water and a slide that dumps you into the pool as well. There is also water basketball to keep you entertained.
- Kid’s Pool – There is a baby/toddler pool adjacent to the main activity pool but not directly connected. It can be seen in the top right corner of the main activity pool picture above. It has a graded entrance, splash pad-like fountains, and a faux rocky surrounding that provides seating for parents, all under a covering that provides nice shade.
- Paradise Springs Splash Fort Pool – This pool really needs to be seen to be believed. It is a shallow pool with a graded entry that surrounds a multi-level splash fort that provides just about every possible way to get splashed with water. There is a Texas-sized central bucket that fills with water and then tips over periodically raining massive amounts of water and pure joy on the kids below. There are water cannons and spray guns on multiple levels that you can use to spray unsuspecting guests. Off to the left side of the fort, this is an area with toddler swings and spray toys that our 1-year-old son really enjoyed.
- Hotel Outdoor Pool and Hot Tub – There is an outdoor pool and hot tub at the hotel with an adjacent bar located just outside of the Hill Country Atrium.
- Hotel Indoor Pool – There is also an indoor 20-meter lap pool available at the end of the Riverwalk Atrium near Relâche Spa. It is open 5 am – 9 pm.
Lazy River
The 600-foot lazy river at Paradise Springs Aquatic Park has a lot of fountains and waterfalls. Compared to the other resorts, I found myself getting splashed the most here… almost wishing I was wearing goggles! Our son was an early 2 when we took him here and wasn’t into the splashing but I would imagine older kids would love it! There are single and double inner tubes available in the lazy river. It is not heated.
Beach Area
There is no beach area at this resort.
Slides
There are 3 slides available. You must be 48″ to ride.
Lounge Area
Lounge chairs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is not a lot of shade and most of the chairs are grouped around the lazy river. Note: water shoes with buckles are not allowed on the slides. There are cabanas are available for rent that can accommodate 4-22 people.
Food/Drink
Poolside waiters serve food from Paradise Springs Poolside Grill.
Accessibility
4 wristbands are included with each hotel room, six wristbands are included with suites. You may purchase up to 2 additional wristbands per room for $35/day. Pick them up at the tour lobby or pool concierge.
There is a complimentary shuttle that departs from the hotel tour lobby to Paradise Springs Aquatic Park every 15 minutes. Lines for the shuttle can get long at peak times so plan accordingly. There is a flight of stairs from the tour lobby to the main lobby to take into account when planning wagons/strollers/our personal favorite – the blue car cruiser. The parking at Paradise Springs is limited to those who have rented a cabana.
You can walk but I wouldn’t recommend it… it is a straight path along the main road that feels longer than it is with little shade and parts of it don’t have a dedicated sidewalk when you get closer to the resort. The trolley is worth the wait, especially with kids!
7. Great Wolf Lodge – Grapevine, Texas (Dallas Fort Worth Area)
