The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa is located halfway between Austin and Bastrop, making it a short drive from Houston and San Antonio as well. It is 16 miles west of Austin Bergstrom International Airport and about 20 miles from downtown Austin.
Cell service is patchy at best. Verizon has the best coverage, T-mobile has no coverage. The concierge told me you can get limited T-mobile coverage from one chair in the lobby… I never found this chair. We needed cell service during our stay so my husband went to the Verizon store about 20 minutes away and purchased a sim card that we used with no problems. However, if you want to be #offthegrid this may be a plus for you!

Pools and Lazy Rivers
“Crooked River” Waterpark at Hyatt Lost Pines Resort is sure to provide hours of fun with several pools, a lazy river, slides, and a sandy beach area. All of the pools connect directly to the lazy river so you hardly ever have to get out of the water! Pools are open 8 am – 10 pm. The adult and kids areas are heated when outside temps are between 55-75, leaving the main activity pool and lazy river chilly.
Pools
- Main Activity Pool – This family-friendly activity pool has a graded entry with a sandy beach as well as pool basketball and volleyball. It also connects directly to the lazy river. There is a family-friendly hot tub in this area as well.
- Kids Splash Pad – Completely separate from any pools so it’s perfect for tots that may not even be walking yet. It has fountains that splash water at random intervals that are sure to delight. Loungers surround the splash pad area to give Mom and Dad a little break as well.
- Adult Pool and Hot Tub – The adult pool is accessible by the lazy river but is far enough from the main current that there are no stray tubes floating into the adults-only area. There is also a large waterfall at the entrance to the pool that helps dim the squeals and splashes from the lazy river to maintain the adult atmosphere.
Lazy River
The lazy river is 1,000 feet long and connects all the pools and even the slides together. It also has a swim-up bar, which really sets it apart from the other resorts. There are large, beautiful trees that provide natural shade and a very relaxed atmosphere for your trip around the river. There are some sprinkler fountains but always an option to avoid them if that’s not your thing. Single, double, and kids tubes are available. It is not heated so it can be quite chilly in the cooler months, whatever those are in central Texas!
Beach Area
The beach area is directly accessible from the main activity pool. Bring your beach toys or purchase some at the resort. Loungers with umbrellas are available. From the beach area, you enter the main activity pool that then connects to the lazy river on the other side. The direct access does cause sand in the pool and lazy river… but I guess as parents we’re used to sand popping up in places it shouldn’t be!
Water Slides
The slides dump you out into a little cove area that attaches directly to the lazy river. They are open 10 am – 6 pm daily.
Lounge Areas
The lounge areas at the Lost Pines Hyatt are our favorite of the Texas family resorts. There are large pecan trees that rustle in the wind and provide a cool spot with natural shade and a relaxing vibe to really feel like you’re on vacation. There are lounge areas around each of the pools, the beach, and right up along the banks of the lazy river. The ground is also different materials – wood, aggregate concrete, or grass so if you forget your water shoes you can hop from one surface to the next to avoid burning your feet #Texasproblems. If you’d prefer to have a premiere lounging location, private cabanas and loungers are available to rent.
Food/ Drink
Keep your whistles wet and tummies full with the swim-up bar and poolside waiters serving food from Old Buck’s Place.
Child Care
The Hyatt Lost Pines resort has 3 sessions of “Camp Hyatt” available daily for children aged 3-12 that are fully potty-trained. The morning session (9 am-12 pm) costs $60 and does not include a meal. The afternoon and evening sessions (1-5 pm and 6-10 pm) cost $75 with lunch or dinner included. All Camp Hyatt sessions must be reserved 24 hours in advance through their online booking system or by contacting the concierge directly. When making your reservation for the afternoon and evening sessions you can select your child’s drink and meal options as well as note any food allergies. The Camp Hyatt child-to-counselor ratio is a maximum of 6:1. Activities vary daily and can be inside or outside but will never include taking your child to the pool.
For younger children or those not yet potty-trained, you can contact a babysitting agency directly. The concierge recommends two Austin-based agencies – College Nannies and Sitters and Grandparents Unlimited.
Shopping
The resort does have a limited stock of baby supplies. Crossroads Boutique carries diapers (sizes 3 and 4 only), swim diapers, wipes, and a few pedi medications (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Benadryl, and Claritin). There is a dollar general about 2 miles away from the resort for other reinforcements that are probably much cheaper.
Golf
Wolfdancer Golf Club
Wolfdancer Golf Club features an 18-hole, par 72 course, a 13-acre practice area, and two putting greens. It is an Audubon-certified course which means Hyatt has reduced the course’s impact on wildlife so try not to hit any actual birdies on the course. The clubhouse includes Major Neighbors Grill. Other amenities include a golf shop, locker rooms, and instructors. This club frequently runs specials for families and kids specials. The course is open 7 am-6 pm.

Restaurants
- Stories Ranch Kitchen
Upscale steakhouse, Dress is resort casual, Open for dinner only.
Steaks are good and can be personalized with a selection of sauces or enhancements (think: black truffle Wagyu butter or gorgonzola garlic crown). The food is good, but the atmosphere is pretty plain. My husband was a big fan of the lobster bisque starter. Located upstairs from Sheller’s Barrelhouse Bar.
2. Firewheel Café
Texan/Southern, Casual, Open for breakfast and dinner.
This cafe is very family-friendly and would also be good for a group. Food for both breakfast and dinner is set up buffet style with something for everyone.
3. Old Buck’s Place
Poolside grill, Poolside casual, Open seasonal hours.
Order from poolside waiters or there are a few tables near the centrally located bar. It offers a nice selection of tropical mixed and frozen drinks, beers, and wine, along with salads and a selection of burgers (beef, turkey, or veggie). A kids menu is available as well. Our toddler enjoyed living his best life noshing mac and cheese poolside on our last trip here. Poolside service is a bit slow but the wait is actually relaxing, given the surroundings. Gratuity is automatically included, and if billed to your room, you don’t have to wait to close your tab which is obviously great for dealing with impatient little kids.
4. Sheller’s Barrelhouse Bar
Sports Bar, Casual, Open lunch and dinner including late night (12 am or 1 am).
Pretty good selection of local microbrews and cocktails to pair with Texan-inspired pub fare. The smoked and braised prime rib tacos served build-your-own style and the burgers were delicious, while the shiner bock queso was decent but nothing to write home about… disclaimer: I am a self-proclaimed queso aficionado. However, the best thing about this place is the large outdoor patio and fire pit. Grab a drink (ask for plastic if you plan to take it outside) and relax in a rocking chair around the communal fire pit for a relaxing end to your day… don’t forget to look up at the stars!
5. Major Neighbors Grill
Golf grill, Open for lunch (1-3 pm), and the bar is open until 5 pm but call ahead in the winter as hours change seasonally.
Menu options include pizza, burgers, and salads.
6. McDade’s Emporium and Ice Cream Saloon
Ice Cream and snacks. They also set up a quick grab-and-go stand with breakfast tacos, pastries, muffins, fruit, coffee, and juice in the hallway outside of the Emporium on weekend mornings. The breakfast tacos are really good and nice to enjoy in a rocking chair on the large back porch or on a bench by the playground while your tots get their wiggles out.
7. Tiny’s Range House
Grab-and-go snacks, beer, wine, and liquor as well as cigars. Located near holes one and ten. Full bar service is available from carts on the course as well.
8. Scribe’s Club
Library-style lounge, 21+ only.
A small, country club-esque setting with a genteel ambiance that makes you want to sip scotch while reading something scholarly.
