Pools and Lazy Rivers
“Edge Falls” is the water park and pool area of the Hill Country Hyatt. It offers a lot of fun things to keep everyone entertained all day with multiple pools along with a lazy river, sandy beach area, one slide, and a simulated surfing experience. The pools are open 8am – 10pm daily. The pools and lazy river are heated but the adult and kids pools are the only ones that feel that way on a particularly cool day.
Pools
- Main Activity Pool – A family-friendly large pool surrounded by beautiful trees that provide areas of natural shade perfectly balanced with sunny areas of the pool as well. Water volleyball and basketball are available and this pool connects directly to the lazy river so it makes a good “home base” for your pool activities.
- Kids Pool – A small pool with a graded entrance so your little ones can go at their own (or your) comfort level. This pool is not connected to the lazy river. It does have some lounge chairs around it but not much shade.
- Adult pool – A secluded pool in the shape of Texas. It is not connected to the lazy river.
- Hot Tub – A jacuzzi with a waterfall makes for a cave-like experience that is as picturesque as it is relaxing.
Lazy River
The “Ramblin’ River” lazy river at the Hill Country Hyatt is 950 feet of relaxation. It is technically considered “heated” but due to its size can still feel cool on a brisk day. It has a lot of shade trees and natural vegetation that gives it a very lush, relaxing feel right in the middle of the resort. There are waterfalls that you can go under or you can admire them from the other side of the river without a splash. As previously mentioned, the lazy river does connect to the main activity pool but does not connect directly to the adult or kids pools, which is probably for the best! There are single, double, and kids tubes available. There is a sandy beach area along the lazy river as well. My one complaint about this lazy river is that it gets very shallow as it passes the beach area. You will have to walk past the beach area with your tube in about knee-high water if you’re not riding on top of your tube. Aside from that, it’s a pretty ideal lazy river experience!
Beach Area
What is it about a sandy beach that just spells V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N? Kids and parents alike enjoy building sand castles while watching tubes pass by on the lazy river. There are loungers in this area if you want to pretend you’re at the beach all day. Bring your beach toys from home or some are available for purchase at the resort.
Water Slides
The one slide available for guests is an easygoing 22-foot slide that is fun without being scary. It does not empty into a pool/lazy river. We’ve honestly never ridden it so I can’t offer any personal insight but the squeals of excitement and smiles of guests coming off the slide do make it sound enticing!
Surfing Experience
The FlowRider surf area is a unique feature of the Hill Country Hyatt that sets it apart from other Texas family resorts. It is a wave simulator that you can ride either kneeling or standing on a board or board-less. It is described on the Hyatt website as “a combination of wakeboarding, boogie boarding, snowboarding and surfing” which I think pretty much sums it up perfectly! It is not included in the resort fee and costs about $25 for 2 hours, however, the entertainment provided by watching it is free.
Lounge Areas
The lounge areas around Edge Falls are really nice. I like that they are spread out all along the lazy river, the several pools, and the beach area so it is not just a sea of chairs grouped together. Whatever you are looking for in a lounge area – sun, shade, bar proximity, tranquility – you can find an area perfect for you. Lounge chairs are first come, first serve but cabanas can be reserved ahead of time to guarantee a prime lounging location. Cabanas are available from 8 am-8 pm starting at $200. Cabana rentals include 2 shaded loungers, a table with an umbrella with seating for 4, a flat-screen TV, a refrigerator, a safe for valuables, a ceiling fan, and an electric outlet.
Food/ Drink
Refreshing drinks and food can be ordered from poolside waiters serving food from Papa Ed’s Poolside Grill or Vince’s Watering Hole Poolside Bar and Grill.
Child Care
The Hill Country Resort offers 3 sessions of “Camp Hyatt” available for children ages 3-12 who are fully potty-trained. The morning session (9am-12pm) costs $40 and does not include a meal. The afternoon and evening sessions (1-5pm and 6-10pm) cost $50 and include a meal that can be selected when you reserve a spot in the camp. These must be reserved 24 hours in advance.
The hotel can connect you with a babysitting agency for younger children and those not yet potty-trained. They recommend Gentle Nanny or College Sitters. You would contact these agencies directly to arrange care.
Shopping
There is a limited supply of baby items in the general store but you’ll definitely find what you need at either Target, Walmart, or Dollar Tree all within 5 miles of the resort.

Hill Country Golf Club
This golf club includes an 18-hole traditional course along with a 9-hole Family Express Golf course and a practice area with a putting green. The club offers preferred tee times and a golf vacation package with savings for guests. Open: 8 am-8:30 pm.

Restaurants
1. Antlers Lodge
Upscale Texan fare, Dress code is resort wear, Open for dinner only.
The token steakhouse with a Texan flare. Offerings include steaks, fish, and Texas wild game. Some of the more exotic menu items include venison meatballs, antelope carpaccio, wild boar pozole, and spice-rubbed elk.
2. Springhouse Café
American, Dress is casual, Open breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
This is the most family-friendly option for dinner on the resort and great for a large group. Known for their buffets, everyone is sure to find something they enjoy. Disclaimer: the breakfast buffet with an omelet station will have you going back for seconds, or even thirds… hey, it’s a vacation, right?
3. Charlie’s Long Bar
Sports bar, Casual, Open 3 pm-12 am daily (21+ after 9 pm)
This is a saloon-themed bar that serves the resort’s most extensive beer selection and cocktails. There are a few TVs for watching sports but it’s not the main focus. If you’re looking for a big game here, I’d recommend arriving early to get a good seat. Food is available but leaves something to be desired. Plan to eat elsewhere then grab a drink and a game of shuffleboard or darts here. Bonus: shelled peanuts served with drinks.
4. Papa Ed’s Pool Bar and Grill
Poolside grill, Poolside casual, Open seasonally.
There are poolside waiters available or you can order at the bar. The menu includes typical poolside grill fare such as apps, salads, and sandwiches/wraps. They have a decent kids menu that should appease even your pickiest little eaters, think: PBJ, hot dog, and chicken tenders. Kids slushies are available too… colorful tongue and lips included!
5. Vince’s Watering Hole
Poolside grill, Poolside casual, Open seasonally.
Expect standard poolside grill options along with a full bar. Vince’s is on the opposite side of the water park area from Papa Ed’s, near the Edge Falls surfing area. I love how this resort is making sure you don’t have to stray too far from the pool to grab a bite or a drink!
6. Cactus Oak Bar
Golf course grill, Open for lunch daily
Offering a full bar along with sandwiches, salads, and burgers. It’s open early on weekends (6 am) with breakfast tacos and grab-and-go options for those hitting the green early. Located across from the Hill Country Hyatt Golf Club Pro Shop on the south end of the resort.
Accommodations
Guest Rooms
Guest rooms at the Hill Country Hyatt are 392 square feet with Texan luxury decor that fits right into the hill country setting. Options include 1 king bed or a double room has 2 full sized beds in it. These 2 configurations can be selected as a standard room or with a balcony, a walk out patio or ADA shower accommodations. I think patio rooms are worth the premium because you can access your room straight from the resort without having hassle with the elevator or hotel hallways. However, there is less privacy – especially if your room is near a common area.
Suites
Suites are also available with 1 or 2 bedrooms. The standard one bedroom suite provides 599 square feet of space that sleeps 4 with 1 king bedroom separated by a door (yay!) from a living area with a full sized sleeper sofa and a dining table. The 2 bedroom suite option has another adjoining room providing 991 square feet of space and accommodations for 8. Fancier suite options are available on their website. Bathrooms have a tub/shower combo.
Amenities
Amenities are the same for both rooms and suites. They are pretty standard including: wifi, mini fridge, hair dryer, coffee maker, and an iron with ironing board.
Cribs are available upon request. Rollaway beds are $25/night.
Pets
This is a dog friendly hotel. The weight limit for one dog is less than 50 pounds or two dogs must have a combined total weight less than 75 pounds. Pet fee is $150 for up to a 6 night stay and an additional $150 for stays 7 – 30 days long.
Resort Fee
A resort fee of $35 plus tax per night is applied to your bill as well. This fee includes access to the spa, preferred tee times, nightly fireside s’mores, organized activities, Edge Falls access and more.
Spa
Wildflower – The Hill Country Spa
Hours: 8 am – 7 pm daily
Services include: Massages (including couples and prenatal), body treatments, facials, and nail services.
